Experience and Requirements

Dance training is essential as this is a college level team. Our Golden Girls are no stranger to early morning practices and technique classes. Great performance energy and projection skills are beneficial.
Skills needed on the Golden Girls include: Calypso Leaps, Tilt Jumps and Kicks, Double or Triple Pirouette, Extension, Leaps in 2nd and Toetouches, Fouette/A La Seconde turns and combinations, any tricks such as Aerials, Handsprings, Head Springs or Kip-Ups.

The CSI Golden Girls are not subject to physical uniformity such as similar heights, body types or skin tones. Each dancer is unique in appearance. While there is no weight requirement and weigh-ins are not part of our training program, being a member of the Golden Girls comes with the responsibility of maintaining a healthy and fit lifestyle, not unlike athletes on other team programs. Dancers are encouraged to maintain a collegiate training regimen including weight training and aerobic conditioning.  Dancers will be expected to perform a high level of dance integrity and ability during each practice in order to not only maintain a level of skill and fitness but improve these elements.

Team practices are 6 - 7:50 a.m. Monday - Friday, from September (fall semester) to March (the following spring semester). On game days, we do not meet for morning practices. We perform at every home basketball game of the season, and work hard through January to prepare for the CSI Rodeo Boxing Smoker.
*Extra practices may be called during smoker prep.

Competition is always a welcome goal! Coach Wright is hoping that with the new development of the ICCDC – a recruiting platform that includes all higher education dance coaches, we will be better poised to attract and recruit solid dancers which will allow us to enter the competitive arena of college dance. Attending competition will mean fundraising for the opportunity to do so.
