American Community Colleges serve as the educational and economic engine for much of America, providing degrees, certificates, short term training, and business and industry courses for millions of Americans every year. The more than 1,300 community and technical colleges in the United States have provided an open door of accessibility to American higher education for more than 100 years. Today, nearly half of all undergraduate college students in America are enrolled in community colleges. In 1985, the United States Congress requested that President Ronald Reagan issue Proclamation 5418, establishing a National Community College Month in recognition of the rich contribution made by community colleges to our educational system and to our nation.
Each April, the College of Southern Idaho joins the Association of Community College Trustees in celebrating Community College Month. This year, the cities and counties of Twin Falls and Jerome, the CSI Board of Trustees, and Idaho Governor Brad Little have all issued proclamations recognizing April as Community College Month throughout the state of Idaho. Please join us in celebrating Community College month at CSI, throughout the state, and across the nation. #CCMonth
