Kern Named to CSI Board of Trustees

Release Date: Tuesday 2023-05-16

Twin Falls, ID – The College of Southern Idaho (CSI) Board of Trustees voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Joshua Kern to the Board during their regular meeting on Monday night. The Zone Three seat, which represents the majority of Jerome County, has been vacant since December 2022 when former Trustee Jack Nelsen resigned following his election to the Idaho Legislature. Kern’s appointment will allow him to serve out the remainder of Nelsen’s term, which runs through November 2024. Kern would be eligible to run for re-election at that time should he choose to do so.

“Dr. Kern is a well-respected member of the Jerome community and we look forward to serving with him on the Board,” said Board Chairman Laird Stone following the meeting. Kern is a primary care physician in Jerome and also serves as the Area Chief Medical Officer for St. Luke’s Magic Valley, Jerome, and Wood River. During the Board meeting, Chairman Stone thanked everyone who applied to fill the vacant seat and noted that the Trustees were pleased with the strong slate of candidates that they were able to choose from.

The CSI Board followed the procedures outlined in Title 22, Chapter 2106 of Idaho Code when filling the seat, which required the four remaining Trustees to solicit applications, interview candidates, and ultimately appoint a trustee to fill the seat.
