The Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho (GSEWNI) recently awarded Jessica Masters the “Girl Scout of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho Cookie Sales Scholarship.” The $777 scholarship was in recognition of Masters’ perseverance and dedication to Girl Scouting and her educational endeavors, and Masters is applying the scholarship to her studies at the College of Southern Idaho (CSI).
After traveling from Moscow to the CSI for a cheerleading combine, Masters knew she wanted to come to CSI to further her education. “I liked the campus when I visited. It is pretty small and homey. But the biggest reason was definitely cheer, especially since they went to nationals and came back with a championship. Plus, Reylene Abbott is a fantastic coach,” Masters said.
Masters was a Girl Scout all the way through high school and sold hundreds of boxes of cookies. She credits Girl Scouts with her success in cheer, school, and her pursuit of a career. “Girl Scouts was an amazing opportunity. There are so many doors that opened up for me. It definitely helped me with public speaking and break out of my shell. It has shaped me a lot,” Masters said. The GSEWNI Cookie Sale Scholarship Program provides Girl Scouts with the opportunity to earn scholarships for college or trade school. For more information about the program go to www.gsewni.org
